The Coy Nude

4 comments:

*For sensitive viewers... this might be NSFW. But if you watch Bollywood item numbers, this is pretty basic. So there, you decide.*

I painted this to try out the air-brush brushes of Photoshop CS6. I think they give too much of a soft focus effect which I don't care so much for... I realized later from the internet that this can be controlled.

As this digital painting experience is by trial and error, I am bound to come up with lots of experimental creations, most of them less than perfect. But, I am working on hitting a sweet spot where a style of painting will make me comfortable and then I might stick to it longer until I am in the mood to experiment again.

The Coy Nude

The Coy Nude is what I call this painting (since it isn't all that revealing... just about the usual new-age Bollywood exposure)
The lady in the painting is no one in particular. Definitely not a self-portrait as a few people pointed out to me... now why would I start self-portraits with a nude. We'll get there... eventually! *wicked grin*

I used facial features which in my head looked good enough to be put together to form a decent face. Now, I am smart, so I covered one half of her face with hair to avoid the problem of getting the facial symmetry right.
It might just be possible that since the one woman I look at the most is... obviously... me, I have unconsciously incorporated a certain element of likeness to my own features. And maybe that explains why quite a lot of people jumped to the conclusion that she is me. She is not!

Also, I was careful to not think of any particular popular or unpopular known face when I did the painting... I really don't want to be dragged in to court for some defamation suit or worse, for having painted someone nude without their permission.
The face is a mix and match of features and the body is what biology textbooks have.

I look forward to readers' comments and criticism.

Am sleepy now... and my painting arm hurts... I am holding a pen in my hand for extended hours (2 in this case) after ages. My hand and my arm are putting up a fight.

Redhead

After raven black , the next best heads of hair are redheads... There is something about a fiery head of hair.

Burgundy, strawberry, copper or fire... a head of red curls is a showstopper.
I tried to picturize the words 'fiery head of hair' and here's the sketch...

One From The Gadget Haul

Today, I got myself something I have been wanting for quite a long time… a graphical pen-tablet.

And not just any pen-tablet, but the Wacom Intuos5 Touch. Yep, only the best for me! :D
The tablet is quite large (actually it is the medium sized one with an active area of 8.8" x 5.5")… but it is sleek and surprisingly light. I like the sleek , matte blacks used in its design and the pen is very comfortable.
Here is an image of the unboxing.

The Wacom Intuos5 Touch (medium)

The tablet comes with the installation DVD with drivers and a DVD with some bundled software… a Wacom Brush set (to be used with Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Photoshop Elements), Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 (licensed), Autodesk Sketchbook Express, Corel Painter Sketchpad. The bundled software is good enough to start off directly without any issues at all. Of course, I do have the Adobe Master Collection CS6… so it really didn’t matter so much to me.

As soon as I installed the necessary software and got the tablet ready, I gave it a trial run… a 15 minute sketch made with the bristle brushes in Photoshop. It (the sketch) is nothing to write home about…. But just trying out the way the strokes would translate onscreen.
Here is the test sketch.

The Lone Rider

I made a slight boo boo. I should have changed the nib of the grip pen to a felt tip. My aggressive brush strokes with the plastic nib have marred the beauty of the tablet’s active surface… already! :(

Well, I would be careful in the future.

I am gonna have a fun time working with the tablet.

Love You Too Much To Be Your Friend

1 comment:

I stopped sending flowers to your apartment
You said you aren't home much anymore
I stopped dropping by without an appointment
Cause I'd hear laughter coming through your door.

Sometimes late at night you'll still call me
Just before you close your eyes to sleep
You make me vow to try and stop by sometime
Baby that's a promise I can't keep.

I love you too much to ever start liking you
So lets just let the story kinda end
I love you too much to ever start liking you
So don't expect me to be your friend.

I don't walk down through the village or other places
That we used to go to all the time
I'm trying to erase you from my memory
Cause thinking of you jumbles up my mind.

You always act so happy when I see you
You smile that way you take my hand and then
Introduce me to your latest lover
That's when I feel the walls start crashing in.

Ice-Screams!!

No comments:

Recently, I had an argument with a friend about paintings… and especially The Scream by Edvard Munch. If you’d recall, one of his versions of the painting was auctioned for a whopping USD 119.9 million.

Our argument was based on how the likeability of paintings and their attractiveness are subjective. He did not like the particular painting. I like it, though not the particular version which sold for that ungodly sum.

Soon, I came across this particular version of the same painting… this time as an advertisement by Faber-Castell. I think it is not just creative, it sure involved a lot more effort than the original painting… and I don’t mean to take anything away from Mr. Munch… but this sure is something that should fetch a couple of thousand greenbacks, at least.

And now, I came across this.

If you are a fan of the painting… or just like your cocktails with a pinch of creepiness, then these are the perfect nightmare inducing ice-screams you can get out there.

Surely, nothing can be more refreshing than a bunch of disembodied, screaming heads floating in whatever is your favourite elixir.
